“WOMAN,
THE LAST, THE BEST RESERVED OF GOD”
-Alexander Pope
March
is International Women’s History month, a time to celebrate significant
contributions of women in every field of human accomplish-ment. It also highlights the continuing struggle for female gender
rights. In America, its roots go back to
1857 when women took to the streets of New York to protest poor working
conditions. In the Bible, its tenets go back to Moses where the daughters of
Zelophehad petitioned for inheritance rights in a patriarchal society and won! (Numbers 27:2-11) Maybe even earlier
if you consider how the Hebrew midwives defied an Egyptian king to prevent
infanticide of their babies (Ex.
1:15-19).
Now
that it is recognized globally, few are ignorant of the facts; but do they know
or care about the abuses that still occur here or around the world? Like FGM (female genital mutilation) of girls
as young as 4 years old in Africa; forced illiteracy of females in the Middle
East, and the 200 million baby girls killed as Undesirables because of China’s One-Child policy? With the fight
for womanhood ongoing and in many
cases life-threatening, why are some
in America throwing this priceless gift away? Why are WE letting them? That’s what one of my readers wanted to
know: “Sometimes, Sis. Betts many of us really don't know how unique we are or what
our purpose is in life so we look to men, streets, drugs, or sex to fulfill
that purpose. Why can’t we learn how to celebrate how God has uniquely gifted
us?”
After studying God’s word, I must admit, I’m confused too! I see too many young and gifted Christian women falling prey to
emotional neediness repeating a horribly destructive pattern: Letting poor
self and body images dictate what God has already said is “beautiful and
wonderfully made.” (Ps. 139:14). It's obvious from His Word that we’re down right Awe-Inspiring;
Created in His very image (Gen. 1:27), a Work of Art, indeed a Masterpiece crafted in the Hands of the Divine
(Ephes. 2:10). How dare we abuse
ourselves or let anyone else do so.
I ache inside every time I see a young lesbian with sagging pants, backward turned baseball cap, and an over exaggerated swagger trying to be something God didn’t create her to be! Some hate their femininity so much that they opt for surgery to erase any trace of it. I cringe each time I hear a female use the terms “Bitch” and “Ho” and then laugh as if it’s a badge of honor! REALLY? It’s like spitting in the face of God! What about professional and accomplished women, dropping their panties for the now desirable, Bad Boy Thug because the godly man is just "too nice! WASSUP WITH THAT? I know you're feeling me...so what are you going to do to wipe out this madness is our generation?....Let me hear from you!

As a mother of two daughters and a grandmother of 8 granddaughters (whew) I'll start first with prayer. (and for young girls and women all over the world). Show them what the Sovereign of the universe say in his word. Set the example for them as Titus 2:3-5 tell us older women. (3 the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things— 4 that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed). I'm going to try to be more intentional of the young girls and women that I come across that are hurting and struggling. To take that opportunity to uplift them and encourage them and share the JOY of Jesus to them.
